SUMMARY:Red Books Day - Naarm
DESCRIPTION:Dear Comrades and Friends of Red Anti-Imperialist Collective\, \nTo commemorate the publication of The Communist Manifesto on the 21st of February\, the socialist\, anti-imperialist left around the world is celebrating Red Books Day. In 2025\, more than three million people across all continents participated in Red Books Day celebrations. \nRed Ant is answering the call to transform the solitary act of reading into a collective\, and wholesome engine for class struggle. \nLast year\, Red Ant invited comrades to contribute a political book review for a text that radicalised us (600~ words). This year we are focusing on creating instagram reels (400~ words)\, a 2-minute video. Other organisations are doing the above\, or a photograph of a comrade with their favourite book. \nFocus on three things: \nArgument \nContext \nApplication (how it resonated with you and your context) \nHow Red Ant Naarm are celebrating: \nRed Books Day at Kathleen Syme Library from 4-7:30pm 21st February \nFollowed by a meal at Mandina Kitchen\, Lygon Street (booking for 20). \nBringing in a red book (fiction is welcome too!)\, bring a friend or loved one. \nRead: Keep your study up! \nWrite: Submit articles or reflections for us to submit on the website. \nReel: Submit scripts or film your own video for the instagram reels.\n

SUMMARY:Dismantle Empire\, Forge Global Resistance - A workshop to build international solidarity and fight imperialism (Naarm/Melbourne)
DESCRIPTION:The opening months of 2026 have seen a non-stop salvo of brutal\, naked imperialist attacks from the U.S. led imperialist alliance. Palestine\, Venezeula\, Iran\, Cuba—these are just a few of the places that have faced imperialism’s sharp edge since the beginning of the year. \nAustralia is a member of the U.S. led imperialist alliance. It is therefore our responsibility to come together to oppose participation and complicity in imperialist crimes. \nOn April 9 in Naarm/Melbourne\, speakers from across West Asia\, South-East Asia (including Indonesia and West Papua) and Latin America will gather to discuss the impact of imperialism on their regions\, the prospects trans-regional anti-imperialist solidarity\, and the possibility of building an international united front against imperialism. \n.

SUMMARY:"I am Cuba" Film Screening in Gadigal
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday 12th April for an iconic film screening and discussion in Gadigal/Sydney! \nWe’ll be watching “I Am Cuba” (1964\, dir. Mikhail Kalatozov). “I Am Cuba” is one of the most technically impressive films ever made and uses its remarkable visuals in service of a radical story about life in Cuba prior to the revolution. The film shows us the conditions of exploition in pre-revolutionary Cuba\, exploitation which the United States today hopes to forcibly restore on the island. \nThis film\, about the eventual success of the Cuban revolution\, is so important for us to watch\, as the decades-long strangling of the island reaches a new low with the current oil blockade. As viewers in the Global North\, we must expand our knowledge about Cuba and the revolutionary spirit that swept across the country\, we must celebrate the successes of Cuban resistance to imperialism\, and we must do what we can materially to support Cuba against renewed imperial aggression. \nSynopsis of “I am Cuba”:\nThe film features four vignettes on the lives of pre-revolutionary era Cuban people. In Havana\, Maria is ashamed when a man she loves discovers how she makes a living. Pedro\, an old farmer\, discovers that the land he cultivates is being sold to an American company. A student sees his friends attacked by the police while they distribute leaflets supporting Fidel Castro. Finally\, a peasant family is threatened by Batista’s army. \nEvent details:\nDate: Sunday 12th April\nTime: From 6pm\, film starts at 6.30pm\nLocation: The Humanist Society of NSW\, 10 Shepherd St\, Chippendale NSW 2008\nCost: Free entry! \nRegister here: https://events.humanitix.com/i-am-cuba-film-screening-in-gadigal \nSee you there!
